Yesterday was Thanksgiving, and it was a great day to spend with friends and family, giving thanks for the blessings we have. As I sit and think about all that I am thankful for, the list is long. I won't go into the list, it would make for reading, not so worthy. But today, is about perseverance. Being thankful for what you have, in essence comes from what you work so hard to achieve.
I am nearly finished the book, Rhino Success, recommended to me by several people, who are successful in their chosen fields. I am working on the being more of a Rhino than a cow. What is that, you ask?
In the book, it talks about the difference of being a cow, sitting quietly in the pasture, watching the world go by, vs being a rhino, and going after what you want, charging in the world to attain your goals.
My mom wrote me an email, commenting on a recent photo, and I realized, I have always had a bit of Rhino in me, because I would work at anything, from selling christmas trees to cleaning portable bathrooms, in order to fund my college education. I set a goal and charged after it. I worked to make it happen, pursued it until I completed the task, then set another goal. When I was 22, I moved from Canada to Texas, because I needed a job. What a scary transition, but if I was not part Rhino, I would have never moved.
Let's talk about financial freedom, it takes work, and perseverance. You can't sit back and wait, you have to go for it. Hard work and perseverance will prevail. Dave Ramsey, is one of my favorite financial gurus, and his tag line, is live like no other so you can live like no other! In others, do what others won't to get what others won't.
This is a true statement, there is no in between. Anything worth doing is a commit in full.
Whether we are talking about money, raising kids, health, fitness, or your job, this will apply. Being a bit of a rhino, charging and going after what you want in life, is what will get you there.
I talk to many people, each and every day, who want something. I find that people will come to me, for advice, but when I tell them what it takes, they have 2 choices, they follow my lead or they don't. There is no in between.
It's a yes or no.
I will be honest, I don't like the no's, but I take them, and try to shake it off. After all, it's hard for me to understand, that is someone has the solution in their hand and showing it, and someone chooses the "no thanks", it's hard for me to understand the no, because I always want to know the why.
WIFM? What's in it for me? That's the loaded question, there is so much in it for me.
Yesterday, my friend, who does not exercise historically, and has just started, did her first 5K, and at the end, she was SO excited that she finished it. I was ECSTATIC. In of itself, was my reward. Her happiness.
Another friend, made the decision to commit to Advocare, last week, and she made her first sale of Spark. She was giddy and happy. She just made $5. Her texting me, telling me how excited she was, was the BOMB!! I know $5 is not alot of money, but it doesn't matter. It was the excitement of changing someone else's life that had her happy! Which in turn, makes everything I do, better!
So, charge after your goals, be the rhino, pursue your dreams, because they won't pursue you!!
Only YOU can make it happen...whatever it is....
Stay with the good fight!!

So, in the last couple of days, I have been doing a lot of soul searching and thinking about the future. The future of the US is in the hands of the election, and although this is not a political blog, I wanted to share some truths that are the future.
First of all, my company went through a re-org again, and due to my knowing about several people who will lose their jobs, luckily not me, it makes me think about my future in a critical way. What would happen if I did? I am working hard on finding my plan B so that if I were to be that person, I would have a means to support myself and my family. You can never tell.
People have told me, you are nurse, you will always have a job. Well, not so fast.
So many of you know, I am a Canadian, thus I have no right to vote in this election. I have no say.
But what many of you don't is why I am here in the first place. In Canada, they have a single payer government run health system. The money to pay for everyones health care comes from the tax dollars. After all, nothing is free. The money has to come from somewhere.
In my second year of nursing school, the government was scaling back on hospital fundings, which ultimately resulted in closures of hospital beds. In other words, there may have been plenty of open rooms, but they had no money to keep people in them. So, if they have no patients, then they certainly don't need nurses. Thus, I could not find any jobs. I sent over 77 applications, and got 77 rejections. No one needed nurses. The hospital I trained at, closed 2 entire wings of the hospital, all due to lack of money. And so I moved to Texas....where I had offers of 4 jobs...
That statement of Canadian medical is free??? NOT so..nothing is free. Not to mention, the lack of doctors, available treatments, and how far you may have to travel for a certain test or care. It's not what you think.
So, as we are on the brink of the election, think about what could happen. If Obamacare is continued, our taxes WILL go up, because the money is needed to pay for everyone's medical treatment. If reimbursement goes down, hospitals will be forced to close beds, so, you can go to the hospital, but that doesn't mean they can serve you. The government will decide who gets what, and when, based on their funding. Would you rather a Doctor treat you? Or a government person decide if what the doctor wants is what you will get? Obamacare sounds GREAT, but in reality, it will not be great at all. If it sounds too good to be true...it usually is.
There are millions of americans without health coverage, and they will now be able to treat, at whose expense? Why the government, of course, and where do they get the money? From the taxpayers. So, again, count on the price of everything going up, because taxes are on so many different things, and they will have to increase in order to pay for this. I would love to see a system where everyone gets care, but this is not the right solution. This one will only make the US a weaker economy, and force to borrow money to pay for it.
So, think about it, how much are YOU willing to spend? If you don't know, it's ok, because the government will tell you how much you will have to pay. And I promise you, it won't be pretty.
There are 2 things you need to do right now....
1. VOTE, and choose carefully because your future depends on it.
2. THink about the vote, think about how much of your money you need, and if you are voting obama, say goodbye to a larger portion for the extra costs of everything to come.
Folks, I have lived the socialized economy, I know what this is about, and if you love the US and the freedom to choose...you don't want government run healthcare.
